Wave
Hold a hotkey, speak, get text — local Whisper or cloud, your choice
Visit website →About
Wave is a macOS voice-to-text utility bound to a hotkey. The user holds the key, speaks, and releases; the speech is transcribed by Whisper either locally on the Mac or through a cloud API, and the result is inserted wherever the cursor is.
It works across every app, dropping text into a field while typing or showing a floating answer alongside selected text while reading. An AI mode lets the user refine, rewrite, or transform dictation with a chosen model.
There is no subscription, lock-in, or telemetry; local Whisper keeps audio on the machine, and cloud APIs are opt-in with the user's own key. It is aimed at Mac users who want fast, private dictation everywhere.

Why we picked it
Wave earns its spot for the local-Whisper option — the hold-hotkey-speak-release flow is common in dictation tools, but being able to run transcription entirely on-device rather than a cloud API matters if you dictate anything you'd rather not send off your Mac.
