About

Mistral 3 is a family of open-source models. It includes three small dense models at 14B, 8B, and 3B parameters, plus Mistral Large 3, the lab's most capable model, a sparse mixture-of-experts with 41B active and 675B total parameters. All are released under the Apache 2.0 license.

The smaller Ministral models are positioned as the best performance-to-cost ratio in their class, while Mistral Large 3 is a frontier-level open instruction-tuned model.

It is aimed at developers and organisations who want capable open-weight models across a range of sizes, that they can run, fine-tune, and self-host commercially without an API dependency.

Why we picked it

Mistral 3 made the list for the size range within one open family — 3B up through a 675B-total mixture-of-experts under the same Apache 2.0 license means picking a size for your actual budget and hardware, not committing to one model's fixed cost.
