Foremerge
Catch intent conflicts between coding agents before they write code
Visit website →About
Foremerge is an open-source coordination protocol for coding agents, built above Git. When multiple AI agents work on the same project in isolated worktrees, Git catches file-level conflicts but misses intent-level ones. One agent might replace a class while another extends it, and Git merges both cleanly, leaving broken code.
Foremerge solves this by having agents announce what they plan to do before they do it. Each agent publishes semantic scopes, claims, and intents to a shared SQLite store inside the Git common directory. Every agent on the machine sees the same picture. When two plans collide, Foremerge names the agents, explains why their plans clash, and suggests how to split the work.
The protocol is deterministic and explainable. It never locks files or blocks agents. It works with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and any MCP-capable client. Foremerge ships as a single Rust binary with a CLI, MCP server, and JSON API.

Why we picked it
Multi-agent coding is real now, and the coordination gap above Git is a genuine problem. Foremerge tackles it with a deterministic protocol instead of another LLM-powered overlay. Apache 2.0, one binary, and it installs in one line.
