About

Discontinued. OpenAI retired ChatGPT Atlas on August 9, 2026, after a nine-month run. Its agent features moved into the ChatGPT desktop app and a new browser extension for Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi.

While it was live, ChatGPT Atlas was a web browser with ChatGPT built in. As the user browsed, the assistant was available in the same window, aware of the page they were on and what they were trying to do, so it could answer questions and act on the current context without copying content elsewhere.

It could carry out tasks across sites on the user's behalf, and remembered context from the browsing session, blurring the line between searching, reading, and doing.

Why we picked it

We're keeping this entry for reference rather than as a live recommendation. While Atlas was active, it removed the copy-paste tax of using AI alongside a browser — the assistant already knew what page you were on. If you want that today, look at Perplexity Comet or the ChatGPT browser extension instead.
