Mistral AI has raised €3 billion in a Series D round at a post-money valuation exceeding €21 billion, marking the largest equity fundraising ever completed by a European technology company, just three years after its founding. Samsung Electronics led the round, joined by co-leads Scaleup Europe Fund (managed by EQT) and existing investor PSG Equity.
The Paris-based company positions itself as the only AI builder constructing the full sovereign stack: open-weight models, the infrastructure to run them, and the products to bring them into production. The pitch is performance without lock-in — customers retain control over data, models, compute, and production systems across four sovereignty dimensions.
Mistral now operates in 20 countries and serves over 125 global enterprises including Airbus, ASML, and HSBC. The fresh capital will expand frontier research, scale compute capacity for training, and accelerate commercial growth internationally.
The round signals growing investor confidence that the next phase of AI adoption will favor providers who offer both frontier capability and institutional control, rather than forcing organizations into single-vendor dependencies. As governments and enterprises weigh data governance and technology sovereignty, Mistral's open-weight model paired with private infrastructure is attracting strategic capital from across Europe, Asia, and North America.
