Google is rolling out a dedicated student hub in Gemini as back-to-school season begins. The hub is a one-stop repository for study tools: collecting research in study notebooks, creating flashcards, taking practice quizzes and more, with notebooks gaining support for graphs and images. It can even read a syllabus and add test dates and deadlines straight to Google Calendar.
Google is also bringing Deep Research to Gemini Live. Students can ask Gemini to generate complicated research reports and talk through the results; if a report takes a while, users can close the chat and lock the phone, and Gemini will notify them when it's ready. In the coming weeks, a new Lens feature in the Google mobile app will let students photograph a worksheet to get explanations, help with complicated concepts or coaching if they've made a mistake.
Eligible students in the US can claim one free year of Google AI Pro, which includes 5TB of storage, Google Health Premium, higher usage limits on Gemini and access to Gemini across Google apps. Students outside the US will have to make do with the lighter Google AI Plus subscription, which comes with 400GB of storage and lower usage limits.
The push positions Gemini as a direct player in education tooling, courting the next generation of AI-assisted learners at the moment study habits are formed.
