Saudi edtech startup AILA has raised $3 million in a pre-Series A round led by Rua Growth Fund, with participation from Jo Academy, 500 Global, Bunat VC and Fikr Ventures.

Founded in 2023 by Yousef Alsayed, Nouf Mugayel and Abdulaziz Bin Mugayel, AILA builds AI-powered personalised learning technology that identifies each student's learning gaps and delivers tailored assessment, practice and performance insights. Its product line includes AILA Tests, an AI-native platform for personalised exam preparation in schools, and AILA Labs, an R&D hub dedicated to new AI applications in education.

The company said the new capital will fund expansion into regional and international markets, further development of its AI capabilities, and outreach to more students, educators, schools and education systems. Jo Academy joined as a strategic investor, contributing regional experience in digital learning.

AILA previously closed a $1.15 million pre-seed round in 2024 led by Sabah Hub, with participation from White Hill Capital and Saudi angel investors. The fresh round signals continued investor appetite for applied AI in Saudi education, as the Kingdom's startups move beyond infrastructure into the application layer.

Key takeaways

  • $3M pre-Series A led by Rua Growth Fund with Jo Academy and 500 Global participating
  • AILA's AI identifies student learning gaps and personalises assessment and practice
  • Funding targets regional and international expansion plus deeper AI capabilities
  • Follows a $1.15M pre-seed closed in 2024 led by Sabah Hub

Why it matters

Small in size, large in signal: AILA's round shows Gulf capital beginning to rotate from AI infrastructure toward the application layer, and education is the region's most promising vertical. A Saudi personalised-learning success story could become an export product across MENA school systems, where governments are digitising curricula fast. Watch whether regional education funds follow Rua Growth into edtech-AI deals over the next two quarters.
